Underground Flutes

55 minutes. Produced in 2004.

On October 16, 2004, a large group of Native American flute enthusiasts, plus a few cavers, gathered together in Dixie Caverns, Virginia, to have a "Flute" concert. This particular cave was chosen for its great acoustics, giving the music an ethereal, and sometimes enchanted tone.

A total of twenty six flutists are featured on this video, playing a wide range of traditional music. Each performance is woven with beautiful scenes from a number of different caves with the wonders of exquisite formations to the magic of underground waterfalls.

A very special thanks goes to Connie Browning, the owner of Dixie Caverns, for supporting this concert of flutists. This is the third year that Connie has opened the caverns to this event. A large thanks also goes to Leonard McGann, who has volunteered to organize this event for each of the three years.

I believe everyone would agree that it is hoped there will be a fourth event, and many more afterwards.
