Mount Rainier 2004 Climb-A-Thon

$5.00

8 minutes. Produced in 2004.

Stan Springer: "This was a really special climb for me because we did this not only as a chance to get together and meet each other, and have a really terrific adventure on the mountain, but also we did this climb with a purpose. We did this as a fundraiser for a local Olympia charity called SafePlace. SafePlace does some really wonderful work, as do many organizations like this around the country, for domestic violence and rape relief. It's a really good organization. They do a Mount Rainier Climb-A-Thon every year were they solicit people from around the community that want to climb the mountain and raise funds as a part of it. I've done this a couple times before and had not summited, so I thought it would be a good idea to put together a really primo group of climbers this year and really try to stretch out the climb to have the best chance of succeeding. Not only in terms of helping SafePlace, but also in reaching the summit."

Randy Miller: "Amazingly, I didn't even ask for money, people started coming up to me giving me checks, and I'm from Delaware, nowhere near here. So I thought that was really amazing, it's obviously a good cause."

Dave Wickersham: "Well, I hadn't heard anything about SafePlace before I came on this trip and I was happy to hook up with Stan. Like we were saying, I was happy to see it go to doing good in the community out here, that's a good feeling. It would be nice if everything in life worked out that well."

Jim Richards: "I couldn't think of any other thing that would be more rewarding then to do Mount Rainier and be able to donate some funds to the SafePlace here in Olympia, Washington."
