Humpback Bridge:
| For those of you who arrive
early on Friday or dont want to go caving on Saturday, may I
recommend stopping by & visiting the Humpback Bridge. It is located
about 1 mile west on Rt. 60 from the campsite. The 5 acre wayside
park has nice shade trees, picnic tables, grills, & porta-potties.
Dunlap Creek runs under the bridge & offers a great place to cool
down, with some nice shallow water to wade in or a deeper area for
swimming. The kids will love it. |

The bridges design, unique to
the United States, is made of hand-hewn timbers held together by hand-made
locust pins. The bridge spans 120 feet long, with abutments placed
100 feet apart, with no middle support. The Humpback Bridges
middle is 4 feet higher than the ends, thus giving the appearance
for which it is named. |
