FALL VAR 2008

Event Information


Campground:

  • Our campsite is around 12 acres. It is a flat, grassy, open field. Dunlap Creek runs along one side of the property, as well as a few trees.
  • Areas will be reserved for vendors and other activities
  • Vendors will have electricity available
  • No RV hookups
  • Bathrooms are available as well as portable toilets located through out the site
  • Sorry, no showers available
  • Water is available on-site, with at least two hoses provided for hosing off cave gear.
  • Convenient location to many caves in Virginia and West Virginia
  • Convenient location to many other activities
  • Convenient location to many motels, gas, restaurants, and stores

Activities:

  • Squeeze box ("Guillotine Trough") - Thanks to Charles Kahn
  • Tree climbing - Thanks to Paul Stern and Bob Wray
  • World class caving - both led and self led trips in Virginia and West Virginia. Cave trip sign up will be available through pre-registration (spots will be left open for sign up on site).
  • Door prizes

Entertainment:

  • Friday and Saturday night DJ - Thanks to John Fox
  • Bonfire - weather conditions permitting
  • Kiddie playground
  • Three horseshoe pits, located near playground
  • Speaker on Saturday night - Phil Lucas will have a slide show and talk on the "The benefits and results of digging (for caves)”. Phil will discuss his digging experiences and show a number of caves that he has personally dug into. There will be an emphasis on conservation since a brand new cave is “pristine”, and it is important to keep it that way.
  • Free form cavers slide/video show. A screen and projector will be available both Friday and Saturday evening for cavers to show their favorite caving slides and/or videos.

Food:

  • Wine, beer, and sodas Saturday night. NO underage drinking allowed. You will not be served without a name tag.
  • Saturday night dinner will be provided by the Moose Lodge, served in the Moose Lodge Hall at 6:30 PM. You must have a dinner ticket to be served.
  • Sorry, no vegetarian meal available
  • Dinner includes: Ham, chicken, cole slaw, potato salad, green beans, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, bread, dessert, tea, and lemonade.
  • Sunday morning pancake breakfast provided by the Front Royal Grotto
